Peruse Phantom Productions' catalog/ad archive in the mid/late-1960's or thereabouts (if you haven't).eBAY can be a good source of info; approach all hits with a healthy dose of skepticism.
The Roberts (AKAI) decks were often fairly nice. Does it have crossfield heads? There'll be a big "X" on the front if it does.
The amps should be decent enough for "other purposes", whether you keep the deck intact or gut it.
