Measuring Speaker Output

69.30.72.240

So, I've been fooling around rehabbing, reconfiguring, and blatantly adulterating speakers for a while. I've measured my success entirely by ear, which is not a very reliable measure, although perhaps improving a little.

If I want to start measuring what comes out of my various abominations to get an unbiased version of the bad news, how should I start and what does it cost? Is there simply some easily obtainable combination of microphone and software that I can connect to a PC to do that?

TIA for any recommendations.
