The # of stag would indicate a different tube complement and of all the 9s I ever owned never saw any with a different complement than I was then familiar with. It is possible that very early production units were different and the majoriy were as I knew them but Saul whe he made changes other than minor production changes changed model dsignations such as the 10 and 10b, the 8 and 8b, the 20 and 20b but I do not remember anything like a 9 and 9b. The difference your freind mentioned would not be minor production run change and would assume Saul would made a designation change. Besides the 9, there was the 9R but that was the rck mount version. Same unti with different faceplate.
