The 800-C's FM tuner closely resembles the early 500-C's tuner (without the Nuvistors, if I recollect correctly) and, thus, should sound wonderful when working properly. My early 500-C gives both my MR67 and FM-1000 a run for their money on audio quality.You should also check the selenium rectifier, which will likely need replacing with a modern silicon version.
Don't worry too much about the missing wooden case. While attractive, they can trap a lot of heat.
