Re: help with a vintage cassette deck. PLEASE!!

Two suggestions: try cleaning the pot that is the speed control with Rid-Ox, or replace it with a newer one.

If the pot adjusts some kind of DC servo, check resistor values in that circuit, or the semiconductors in that circuit for overheating. Just zap a couple of the parts with freeze spray. If you can't find freeze spray easily, just turn a compressed air keyboard duster upside down and give it a quick burst. If you hit a part and the pitch changes, you have found your culprit.
