Here's my experience with big power-supply and coupling caps in vintage gear:Sansui 5000X (1971) (two units) -- Six out of the 8 caps were right on spec (or better) after 33 years of life
Pioneer 727SX -- All four were exactly on spec after 32 years
Onkyo A5 (1976) -- Two 13,000 uF caps were only around 8,000 uF after 29 years
HK 430 -- I spot checked two out of four 4700uF caps, they were exactly on spec after 31 years
NAD monster receiver -- 2 big Nichicons were well below spec after 24 years
Some of these units had had a lot of use, others not.
At this point I believe anyone interested in maintaining vintage gear should own a cap meter.
Steve.
