2 things. First, like all good Accuphase components, the E-202 is exceedingly accurate, linear and transparent.He could need new electrolytics (wouldn't hurt), or it could be that he is not use to hearing accurate bass reproduction.
Second, ELNA for audio cap's are not so inferior to todays. infact their performance was well ahead of their time, and when good, will hold their own just fine against todays designs.
He needs to examine the main caps. Are they deformed in any way? is there any signs of leakage?
Even though Accuphase currently uses Nichicon Muse (if you want it to sound sweeter), I have found the Panasonics to be closest to the ELNA's (which may still be available new).
Something to think about if you decide to replace them.
