The small Dahlquist 2-ways compare nicely to the Altecs and to a strong pair of a/d/s towers.

The Dahlquist tweeters are not quite as bright as those of the other speakers, which might be a slight minus to my old male ears, but the difference is not huge. (The Altecs have sizzling Peerless tweeters in them, and the a/d/ss have 3/4-inch domes.)

The bass in the Dahlquist is not as loud as in the a/d/s (two woofers per tower) or in the Altecs (10-inch plus passive 10-inch in each), but it might be characterized as 'tighter' or 'gently rolled off', not necessarily worse.

Overall, I'd call the sound of the Dahlquists strong, warm and enjoyable. With what was playing on the radio tonight, I preferred the Dahlquists to the Altecs, the Altecs to the a/d/ss, and the a/d/s towers to the Dahlquists.
