After a couple of decades of my vinyl collection languishing, I was walking down the street and found an old AR XA waiting for the trashman. A new belt got it spinnin, but before I did any research, I put a Grado Red in it (on some nimrod's recc.) and lo and behold, it hums like a bastard. I'm running it into an NAD tuner/preamp in font of a Rotel power amp. I gotta say-- at low volume before the hum is really evident, the sound of my old analog black made me want to flush the CD's.
Now, I know I'm running a system that's Johnnie Black compared to most of your 18-year-old Lagavulin systems, but I'd love it if any of you could hip me to a great cartridge.
