... very nice sounding in my 299c. I was surprised because I almost always prefer a vintage tube. Mullards or Tele's for the 12ax7's and a Mullard 5ar4 in mine, although the vintage American 5ar4's (RCA, GE, ...) seem to be very nice, too; I could be very happy with them. I have not seen a lot of positive comments on the new production 5ar4's although it depends a lot on the year of production (they seem to be getting better each year).
