I thought they might be. It's not really a dust cap, it's the visible part of a cup shapped piece and the voice coil is wound on the sides of the cup. That gives really good coupling thermally and mechanically. The dome is the bottom of the cup and acts as both a high frequency radiator and a thermal radiator. The "cup" is hydroformed.Might look ugly, but it shouldn't be covered as it will affect the sound and the heat dissipation at high power levels.
