Re: Anyone ever use 1 of these?

I had some friends in a remote town in the mountains, and the people there were sold on one of the old Radio Shack compact & amplified FM antennas. That was about 15 years ago. I've picked up something roughly similar on eBay and it seems to work no better than a dipole. Of the others I've tried, the rest seem to be worse than a dipole.

Remember, however, that a dipole cut for 98 MHz is not a real good antenna at 88 MHz, and that the tuning adjustment on some of these compact antennas might give them a better chance to get some of the signal they produce to actually go into the receiver. I've never really tried to figure that out.

The one compact antenna that is very good is the Terk AM advantage for AM reception. It is way better than about 4 or 5 of its competitors that I've tried. They always go for over $30 on eBay; IDK why.
