Re: new TT

Spend some time in the archives of the Vinyl Asylum, just one "click" above on the main page. If you like to tinker and tweek, go with the Thorens. If you like your music played back fast, get a Rega. If you want a 'table that's built like a tank, set & forget, and will run forever ... get a Technics SL-12xx and a Denon DL-103 HOMC, or an AT-440MLa cart, or even a Shure M97xE if you like a little more 'laidback' sound.

The 12xx can be found new for about $400, or used for $200-250. Just be careful you don't buy one that has been DJ abused. The Denon is about $200 new and the AT is about $90.

The days of sniggering at the 12xx because it's a "DJ" 'table are over. At new prices you'd have to spend some big $ to best it. Add in the reliablitiy and ease of use and it's a bargain. Not to mention the upgrade paths through KAB and others that can make it a world beater.

Just my, and alot of other people's, opinion,
Scott A.
