Back when I was a wee lad ('60's) it was not highly unusual to see nice Scott and Fisher tube amps built into walls in the nicer homes. Wharfedale speakers were frequently present; some in the wall, some not. Picture them on either side of a fireplace at head level. Sometimes they were mono systems.I still see built in book shelf units in homes of '50's - '60's vintage that had a place for audio gear and the speakers; the grills sometimes still in place, the gear long disposed of.
A friend bought a '60's vintage home that needed some major updating. In a cabinet built into the front hall closet he found an old MC-60.
