Re: The Fisher is humming.............

It is rather difficult to diagnose these things over the internet as several components can be causing your problem.

The two usual culprits in a Fisher receiver are the bias supply filter cap and the voltage doubler caps.

But then again, we can just have a bad solder joint causing your hum problem, or a bad ground in the unit. The plus side is nothing started blowing fuses (yet).

If you have the ability, you need to start troubleshooting from the ground up. If not, get the unit to a tech...because if you don't have a basic knowledge of electronics...starting with this problem is going to be quite difficult.

Although one simple thing you can do...providing the first voltage doubler cap wasn't the one that was changed- is try pushing down on the can cap that was replaced (if it is a CED twist lock- if it is a JJ, than this is moot) and see if the hum goes away. If that solves it- the twistlock is not grounded to the chassis properly- which is a common enough problem.
