Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

IMHO, times have never been better

Let me see.

You can now buy a CD/DVD player for a 100 bucks, grab the output right from the DAC, bypass the output stage and run a passive filter, and get good sound on the cheap

Todays current production tubes are getting better all the time and some rival the best NOS.

There are more quality turntable choices than I can remember in a long time.

While not bottom feeder cheap there are a lot of very nice chokes and transformers being made at reasonable prices.

If one wanted to go in that direction a PC based music server with a good sound card and DAC is possible and music can be downloaded for free or at a small charge.

The new crop of off the shelf constant directivity waveguides are very good and if you haven't heard one of these newer horns you don't know what you are missing.

In general there has been a lot of advances in drivers and a lot of new names that rival the best of the big names.

Digital and chip amps can be had at very cheap prices and many love the sound.

Op amps continue to get better as well as DAC chips.

Passive parts quality improves steadily and prices are nice.

Enough for now.
