Most CD players these days have more gain than is needed and low output impedances and so should work fine with as low as a 10K volume pot.I will assume the crossover is a tube based unit so it should have a high input impedance making the passive preamp not an issue. The output impedance of the crossover could be higher than is ideal for a low input impedance amp and/or plate amp though. Symptoms would be rolled off highs.
If you feel you have a problem a buffer could be added between the crossover and the amps or a more modern crossover could be used. I would also suggest that a transformer based volume control will sound better. Intact audio makes one for a very reasonable price.
