my first vintage :Akai am-2600 , is it safe?

Hi,
I just got a Akai am-2600 amplifier, My headphones work Ok , but I'm a bit worried to connect my not so cheap speakers (500 dollars) , Is it a huge risk? The thrift shop has it's own tech-man , it passed the test and I've got a weeks guarantee....
It looks good outside and inside.
