I live in Canberra, grew up in Newcastle, but my family is a Sydney* family, so I know it well, for TV and FM reception too.
Are you higher up than the area in Nthen Sydney where the transmitters are, or down a hole, over in them there hills. You'll need a topographical map with contour lines to find out.
If you are down a hole - a tenna on a mast may be essential / vital!
*My Grandfather drove horse drawn buses before 1914, in Sydney, after giving up on the Mudgee area. He ended up as an artillery driver in France, and survived!!!!
