It almost always appears silver. I was always weary of the "pale gold" description on original black & white Marantz ads and sales literature. That is, until I saw a Model 7 in the flesh eleven years ago.
My 10B also has this pale gold finish, not really silver. On the pics of my first post you can compare the ARC stuff's silver finish to the 10B's. They are clearly different.
Also, it is possible that later Marantz tubed gear had more silver looking front panels. Perhaps Rich Links can elaborate more on this...
