I can't vouch for the sound of the MD-109 because I don't have one, but I have an older MD tuner (FT-11) and think it sounds great. Magnum Dynalab also stands behind their products. I had my tuner re-aligned a few years ago and for not much more, MD has a service to upgrade some of the internal components. They service any tuner they ever produced. They also offered me a pretty good trade-in value if I were to upgrade to one their current tuners.Some of the more FM enthusiasts here may disagree, but I think I have great value for money in a "high-end" tuner and would recommend Magnum Dynalab to anybody willing to spend the money for good FM.
