Dolby nr settings question

Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Greetings all
I have a recently acquired marantz 2325 receiver. The "dolby nr" settings intrigue me. from L to R they are DOLBY FM, PLAY, OFF, RECORD 1, AND RECORD 2. On the "dolby fm" selection, high frequencies are most prominent and the signal strength needle fluctuates with the music. (I thought dolby was a noise reduction feature). The highs are most muted on "play" and "off" and "record" is in-between. Is there any harm in using this feature?
Also, the "tonal mode" feature is confusing. When off, the tone controls don't function (makes sense), but the 250 hz and 4kz sttings are mystifying...
