I hate devices that intentionally introduce distortion, but I have to admit, this probably adds fidelity. I think the station compresses the whole signal, so I think you should avoid the 2BX or 3BX, which broke the signal up into frequency bands.Does the signal sound closer to the source material with the dbx unit in?
Finally, it should be possible to DIY such a unit, which might sound better. (I can't believe I just advocated a DIY distortion device.)
