My guess is that you're experiencing an adjacent channel selectivity problem that your tuner just can't handle.I had a similiar problem in that the classical station (93.9FM twelve miles away) to which I listened had bleedthrough from a closer (94.1FM five miles away) station. It was only noticable when the classical had (frequent) soft passages. The other station was an over-modulated religious outlet.
It all went away when I dumped my 70's era Marantz 150 for the Onyko T9090 Mk.II.
