Further to my last message, I have had a local repairer replace the power supply caps. I am quite annoyed that he used ordinary electrolytics instead of low-ESR types. I shall not be taking it back to him for additional work. Two of the replaced caps were clearly faulty and the others were all out of spec to some degree. While I am certain that the new caps are all well within spec, it would have been an excellent opportunity to enhance rather than restore the power supply.
The tuner sounds somewhat better but is still nowhere near where it should be. Clearly there is much that still needs to be done to bring it back into shape.
I have suddenly found myself with a much larger workload than I anticipated and cannot do any of this play myself.
I have found a Yamaha-authorised repairer who appears to be fully competent with this age of Yamaha tuner, has worked on CT-7000s, and sees his job as more than just getting the tuner to work OK.
So I shall be delivering it to him later this week for repair and enhancement.
