Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

I believe this post is from the same fellow who posted something similar in the tuner forum, only there he claimed the mods cost $800.00. We have never done a mod that cost $800.00 or $900.00, even on a Kenwood KT-917. This guy is not an APS customer; we have never done work on a tuner for him. But that didn't stop me from trying to get to the bottom of what he says is ailing his TU-9900...

I contacted the owner and asked him to send me the tuner for evaluation. He declined, instead wanting to see if perhaps he could improve matters himself. I asked what type of antenna the TU-9900 was connected to, and he said "a $700.00 digital TV antenna". Since most TV antennas stink for FM reception, I asked him what model antenna he was using. He couldn't identify it, so he sent me a pic. The antenna he is using is a UHF-only Channel Master 8-bay that sells for $50.26! No quality FM tuner is going to like being connected to such an improper antenna! I asked where he arrived at $700.00 for a $50.00 antenna, and he said "I know it was a lot more than $50.00".

$900.00 mod. $800.00 mod. $700.00 antenna. Getting the picture?

Since then he said he'd be sending me the tuner, but never did. It's possible something went on it. I'm willing to look at it if he's willing to send it.
