Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

either already tweaked or have it tweaked. Pretty sure Mike Williams (Radio X) in Michigan still 'does' these.
The price seems much more reasonable on these now than it was a few years ago.
PS The Sangean sounds like a $200 tuner because it is a $200 tuner. I don't know about the one you have, but the one I have (which sounds perfectly OK to me) cannot be switched to receive the non-HD signal manually (which is too bad).

(This is the Sangean HDT-1 that I have, FWIW)
