Hi Doug:
Yes, I did get it from Byron.
I am very happy with the performance; that being said, I really don't have anything to compare it to. (My tuner has been sitting in my equipment rack for 5+ years, unused, except to try it briefly with a borrowed whip antenna to make sure it worked!) I am able to receive all the stations that I want to listen to with what appears to be very high fidelity and very little noise. FYI: All these stations are within about 30 miles of my suburban home.
So, yes, by all means, if you want an indoor antenna, I doubt you'd go wrong with the 8500.
By the way, this sucker is big - 5 ft tall and about 1 ft in diameter, and all black. The walls of my room are painted a dark color so it pretty much "disappears" against the wall. But if you have light-colored walls, the antenna would be rather conspicuous. It's certainly not a bad looking unit, but if you share your space with someone who has strong ideas about decor - and those ideas don't include "hi-fi chic" - it might cause a little domestic turmoil. :-)
Good luck!
Wayne
