I also read (via an older Van Alstine article) that the grease in the bearings is indeed as you mention (AND the contacts as you mentioned too!), and SHOULD alleviate the tuning noise.
Now I have to get off my lazy you-know-what!
BTW, how's the weather up there? I miss "The Big Smoke" dearly, but D-wife and I should be making the trek up there for the recently announced Rush tour dates this June...
