I haven't had too much time to listen to music lately, but last night it was what I needed. I had a few other projects going, so this was going to be background listening.
I turned on the tuner I have currently cycled into the system, a Yamaha T-80, but something was wrong. The signal strength from my favorite NPR station was weak and the sound slightly distorted. Switching the T-80 to mono made it listenable, but the other projects were put aside as I began to wonder what was up with the tuner, my antenna, the station's transmission, etc.
After a few minutes of excessive thinking, I grabbed a Q-Tip and the can of DeoxIT D5. I pulled the antenna's PAL connector out of the tuner, gave it a squirt, and wiped it with the Q-Tip. There was a bit of black oxide on the cotton, so I was hopeful. I reinserted the PAL adapter, and I was back in business, music wise.
I'll have to thoroughly clean the Yamaha's female connector today, along with the RG-6 F connector threaded onto the PAL adapter.
Sometimes it's the simple things.
