The 6HR6 is the semi-remote cutoof pentode used as a limiter in the Fisher 500B and other tuners and receivers. It's out of production and pricey.
There's a guy on eBay selling a 6GM6 as a drop-in sub for the rare and out of production 6HR6.
I looked both up in the RCA Receiving Tube Manual RC-30 and found that the the 6GM6 heater draws slightly less current, and that both tubes have separate connections for their cathodes and suppressor grids. However, the pins for the cathodes and suppressors are reversed in the two tubes. Since in almost all applications the cathode and suppressor grid are tied together at the base this isn't an issue for most applications.
The RC-30 had the 6HR6 as a discontinued type with limited data.
So the questions are (1) Has anyone tried this substition and with what results in what equipment and (2) Does anyone have access to thorough enough data for both tubes to do a characteristic comparison?
I think the results of this could benefit all of us who have equipment that uses the 6HR6.
