I don't believe that's the case Tony. Yes, the AM subcarrier scheme for stereo probably has Armstrong rolling around in his grave but I've had too many thousands of hours of wonderful listening, prior to the loudness wars (re my post above), in decent signal areas with good quieting to dismiss it. In iffy areas mono or hi-blend still allows pleasant listening.
It's obviously now a matter of taste and apparently collectively we have lost ours. Who needs linearity when listening to "modern rhythm driven music" rather than the "old fashioned dynamic music". I actually read that description a few years ago and it explained a lot....
