My own personal hunch, or "unpleasant premonition" as Frank Zappa maybe would say, about the state of rock FM is that this type of radio is doing all it can (hand in hand with the MTV-affiliated TV stations probably) to KILL music as a day-to-day, "spiritual" necessity. Keep the masses under the impression that they get their cool, classic rock hits as often as they like... Then will come a point of saturation where even the joe six-packs will go hey, this is repetitive and boring!... Is this what this music thing is ALL about in the end? And since barely no other forms of exposure to music exists any longer for the public at large to get a chance to double-check if they've been screwed all along: voilà! Talk radio all over AM >AND< FM! Now THAT's a way of life for those who spend half their waking hours talking over the cell phone anyway...
