Hi.

I've been using these blue ALPS for years, being cheap but sonically
pleasant.

To make it sound better, I would suggest you to add a bridging resistor, 1% metal film or even carbon composite depending your sonic taste. Hook the resistor across the full volume pin & the wiper pin. Check up my posts here earlier on this same issue.

I would even make the bridging resistor 'inductanceless' by put 2 resistors tightly side-by-side together in parallel, ying-yanged.
