..has many distractors is that often they used a ECC189 instead of a real '88.Not always knowingly either - many tube merchants used to buy up real cheap '189's and remark them as '88's.
I wouldn'd - but could be used in a phonostage where the signal level is only a few mV - but NOT in a line stage or a poweramp driver! But keep the current high to minise any bad effects.
