Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

I'm not good with all of the terminology

On the left is the long and short plate Mullard 12ax7. On the right is the smooth and ribbed plate Telefunken 12ax7. In the middle is a newer Sylvania 12ax7. I know Sylvania made different 12ax7s but I've never listened carefully to any of them. Back in the day we used mostly Mullards and Telefunkens. I do remembering liking the black plate RCA 12ax7s.

I don't use 12ax7s in my system these days. I can sub a 12ax7 for a 6sl7 in my phono pre using this adapter if I want/need a little more gain.
