Mike was a real cool dude! What was the most fun was
his sense of humor and/or adventure.
Over the phone I was able to design a choke or transformer
and then try to talk Mike into building me some of them.
Mike was patient, always suggesting ideas to further improve
the item being discussed.
Mike was the most fun when he knew that something was going
to work even though it was highly unusual-- and usually
controversial..
He would think on it, do some outside-the-box mathematics,
question me as to why I was doing it in an unusual way, and then
he would really figure it out-- how it could work, and believe
me, that took genius because I wanted things that very few
would want, understand or would agree to building.
Mike treated these challenges in his own way-- my favorite
thing with him was this-- which he exclaimed to me a number of
different times over the years as new ideas kept getting built:
"Oh, Dennis! That is delicious!" David wound the coils and
built the frames. He was, like Mike, a kind of genius.
Today, I look at some of those things that we built-- that
greatly outperformed, even they weren't supposed to work--
theoretically. Mike humored me, and never lost his sense of
wonderment and humor.
It was truly fun to work with Mike. Sure, I'll miss him,
But it's kind of like he's still here-- his legacy really is!
