Standby/Operate Switch on my Cary Super Amplifier (AE-25)

I built a AE-25 Amplifier (Push-Pull) from Audio Electronic Supply about 20 years ago. It was a kit. It has served me well and I have never had a problem with it, except a blown fuse from a bad tube.

It has a switch on the front of the Amp with two positions. Operate and Standby. I have never used the Standby Position. Can someone here tell me what this switch does and why I should use it? Schematic attached with the Standby Switch circled in Red and the Power Switch circled in Blue.

In fact I have the Amp plugged into Surge Protector and just throw that switch and it turns on everything. Amp, Preamp, Dac, Raspberry Pi Power Supply and starts playing my Wife's favorite Radio Station. She loves the 'one switch' operation.
