I'm with you. I never build a chassis with common hardware showing on the top, sides or front (except sometimes the nuts and bolts for power and output transformers). The current project will have a sub-chassis that holds all the tube sockets. Ironically, I don't care how the octal on the rear panel looks, there just isn't enough space. It's an impedance selector, BTW. No switches or terminal strips for me. :)
