The circuit below was used with a SS power supply by a manufacturer in the '60s. It applies +320V to the grid of the triode until the pentode conducts. I don't know if they sold a lot of this particular amp, but I've never heard of it being troublesome. Maybe there's something special about the triode in the 7199?
