RE: 6GH8/6U8 is more available than 6AN8

Thanks, but every data sheet I've seen for the 7199 characterizes it for high quality, hi-fi audio amplifiers. As far as I know, it was never marketed for TV use. The Stromberg ASR-433 with 6U8s might have been designed before the higher-performance 7199 became available. Or, the factory may have had a surplus stock of 6U8s from previous products like the ASP-422. The Stromberg ASR-120 stereo console amp (push pull 6v6) used the 7199. As for the Dynaco clone, they were probably pushed to use the 6U8 simply because the alternative would have meant a more significant redesign of the PCB in order to eliminate the pent/triodes altogether. Whatever the case, it seems pretty clear to me that the subs simply aren't the equal of the 7199. The 6AN8 was also designed for TV use, but I was hoping it might be the exception regarding the crossover into hi-fi. At this point, I've decided to use separate envelopes for the pentode and triode functions. That will move the design closer to the high performance goals I'm attempting to achieve. :)
