I don't think you can move speaker cables quick enough to be able to do as good a comparison as you can by having the switch. The changeover is instantaneous and there is no problem with gaps in music memory.
The phase is the same on both amps, and the room acoustics are pretty good. I don't think they would hide any differences. That is the interesting part, if you did not see the switch happening you would not know the switch had taken place.
