I used them a lot when I first started out cuz they were cheap and subbed in for a 12AX7 just fine, same gain, but pass as much current as a 6SL7, in other words, more transconductance than a 12AX7 which logically should translate into better sound. I used 82K for the anode resistor, figuring it a good compromise for "in between" the proper value for a 6SL7 and a 12AX7.
IMO, they sound better than the 12ax7. I tried a 12ax7 once just to see and that was enough for me.
If you need a lot of gain, I would reach for a 6n2p.
