I can tell you exactly what happen and it's not a hrd fix.

The reason you are getting pops and clicks is is because you popped an IC and you are getting DC offset on the volume pot.This was very common with GAS and SAE preamps back in the day and they could pop an op amp and that would generate
DC on the volume pot and in turn to the output. You have lot of SS circuitry in ARC products and if you shoot me a schematic I can tell which IC it is.
