Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Solution in sight!

I finally had the patience to look at the solder connections of the socket of the failing tubes, and I can already see one subpar solder joint. That's all it would take. I can't see the bottom half of the tube socket until I buy an extractor tomorrow to remove one of the stripped screws. That exonorates the bias pot, bless it's soul!

I am going to replace the out-of-spec bias resistor with some el-cheapo 1-watt metal films so I can set the bias to a known amount. I would be nice to have a meter on the amplifier and not have to unscrew the covers to adjust bias -- my next amplifier -- ha, my wife would say!
