EICO HF-89 restoration

I have an EICO HF-89 in non-functional condition. Mice got to it while in storage and chewed up the power capacitors. Also the varistor slow-start thing doesn't work (the last time I tried to power up the amp, it just smoked and never kicked on). A few of the original passive components failed and were replaced with cheap crap long ago when I was a college student. Otherwise it's all there.

Does anyone know a restoration guide? I have the manual with original build instructions, but I wouldn't know how to find good parts. Plus I understand there are problems with the original design, such as running the output tubes too hard (they used to go into thermal runaway at random moments. although maybe it was just a bad brand of tubes). I wonder if someone has worked up a circuit using the same transformers but otherwise modernized, complete with parts list.

Thanks,
Mike
