1/ Triode strapped will sound far better than UL, even if you had the taps.
2/ When triode strapped, the screen grid maximums are negated, as you never get the otherwise possibly dangerous situation of having the screen voltage high and the anode very low, with the tube turned on full. This is what busts screens and why there is always a max screen voltage rating. Triode strapped, the screen is always slightly lower than the anode, hence no problem.
3/ Running pentode would mean you would have to use NFB, and triode strapped you often don't, which to me at least, sounds FAR better!
