RE: First impression of Kenwood KW-55 receiver upgrade

The Russian 6p14p-ev, AKA EL84M, is a genuine 7189 equivalent. The tube has quite decent, if unspectacular, sonics and it's tough. You don't have problems replacing the Kenwood's "finals".

The BG 'lytics have a lengthy run in time. Give the unit lots of work and keep it busy, after run in.

Try the Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the phono stage "holes". The Russian tube is honest and very quiet.

A common cathode 12AX7 section DC coupled to a 12AX7 "concertina" phase splitter is typically Fisher. Did Kenwood rip Avery off?

Try RCA or TungSol built 6AQ8s in the ECC85 sockets. You might luck out. New Jersey's best AINT junk. :>))
