I just dropped the first cap (3.3uF) from my CLCLC PSU, feeding straight into the 15H (60DCR) choke. My 6SN7-based Aikido preamp is definitely sounding better for it!
I'm not sure if it is due to the better power regulation, or lack of RF hash, or the lower operating voltage (320V down to 220V), but the bass is more solid, the highs are more clear.
It *IS* a bit more forward-sounding now, tho. But, that works in my system.
I initially tried it to trouble-shoot a low frequency bounce in the B+. I think I've narrowed it down to either modulation between the two choke stages or parasitic magnetic coupling of the second choke to the mains transformer. I tried choke input to see if that might help. It didn't, but the B+ wobble is about the same as before. Modelling in PSUD2 suggested it would be MORE dramatic if it was a filter resonance. So, I am now leaning heavily towards the magnetic coupling theory.
It did help the shutoff thunk. So, I'd keep this PSU version even if it did sound the same as before...
