by all means try but consider that the triode section has high Rp , driving the triode strapped pentode section will result in a rolled off top-end response . I found this out a while ago when I tried this mod on a Rogers cadet 3 power amp , square waves at 10khz looked like sine waves , also as Tom says the output power is seriously reduced . Typically amps that use ECL86 are low priced , it would be a better idea to attend to the output transformers and capacitors .
